Overview

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection launched in 2020 with a straightforward premise: take everything that makes a Ritz-Carlton stay exceptional — the service consistency, the attention to physical detail, the sense that someone has already anticipated your needs — and rebuild it for the open ocean.

Three ships, each carrying under 300 guests, make this one of the most intimate options in the luxury cruise market. If you've been a loyal Ritz-Carlton guest on land, the yacht collection will feel immediately familiar — not in a templated way, but in the deeper way that comes from genuine brand DNA carried through consistently.

The ships

Evrima, Ilma, and Luminara each carry 149 suites for approximately 298 guests. At that scale, the social dynamic is closer to a private members' club than a hotel — you'll recognize every face within two days and likely know most names by four. The ships are elegant without being ostentatious, with interiors that feel more like a well-appointed private yacht than a scaled-down cruise ship.

One practical advantage of the smaller ships: access. RCYC can call at smaller ports and harbors that the larger Explora ships cannot. Itineraries lean toward authenticity over crowd-pleasing, and the line has been willing to develop more unusual routes in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.

Service

Service is where RCYC most clearly distinguishes itself. The Ritz-Carlton training program is among the most rigorous in hospitality, and that shows on the ships. Staff are polished, anticipatory, and consistent across departments — which is harder to achieve than it sounds on a vessel with a rotating international crew.

The atmosphere leans slightly more formal than Explora — not stuffy, but there's a social expectation at dinner and a sense that guests have opted into a certain kind of experience. For many travelers, that's exactly what they're looking for.

Who it's best for

Ritz-Carlton loyalists

If the brand already means something to you, the yacht collection deepens that relationship.

Travelers who prize intimacy

~298 guests is the smallest fleet in this category. You'll never feel like you're on a ship.

Destination-focused travelers

Smaller ships reach ports the larger lines can't. Itineraries are well-designed.

Those who appreciate formality

The atmosphere rewards guests who enjoy the social ritual of a fine hotel stay.
